Hair loss treatment products are readily available on the market, to anyone that needs them. Some are only available on prescription although there are still a wide range of products to treat thinning, balding hair that can be bought from even a high-street store. I wrote this article to provide a quick hair loss information and reference to just a few of those products to enable sufferers to get a good idea of the variety of hair loss products that can be used to treat the hair and scalp. It is not aimed at replacing any advice, caution or hair loss information given about treatment products by the manufacturers or your Doctor.
Hair Loss Medication
A few products that I have found that are best only used on prescription by a physician/general practitioner are below with a quick description:
Propecia
Aimed at treating hair loss and balding in men only because of its ability to alter hormones in pregnancy, it is also not suited to children and no tests have been conducted in elderly men either. Propecia contains Finasteride, an active ingredient aimed at decreasing or preventing formation of dihydrotestosterone, on which balding is highly dependent on the levels in the body. Side effects have been very mild in patients tested.
Rogaine
Minoxidil is the active ingredient in this treatment and is a hair loss treatment for both women and men. It can be used on its own, or mixed with other ingredients that are also active in reducing baldness and thinning. Originally used to treat high blood pressure, its side effect was encouraged growth of hair on the scalp and is now developed to treat baldness, especially that which is hereditary.
Many suppliers claim that Rogaine is a more effective ingredient than those found in Propecia, I suspect it is stronger so do your research before buying.
Natural Hair Loss Treatments
There are herbal remedies for those that do not wish to buy, or be prescribed, any medication. This suits those that are more happy not adding chemicals to their body although some people may not see any improvements by using natural products to treat their hair loss problem.
Gingko Biloba is used for many additional benefits to the body. One of the benefits it claims to have is that it restores and revitalises the hair and scalp due to its ability to increase the level of oxygen in the blood. For a drug free hair loss treatment this one was the most friendly I found.
Shampoo Treatments
Most large supermarkets and specialist hair stores/salons can advise on products that can be used for thickening hair and disguising hair loss in both men and women. I picked two of the most popular, this option appears a little cheaper and more effective for minor complaints such as thinning hair as it is not a strong medication.
Wella
I found two products by Wella that have been tested and are suitable for the treatment of hair loss. The first was Wella SP Energy Serum, which they claim is ideal for use in hereditary conditions and for temporary hair loss (e.g. pregnancy). The second was a product developed for men called Wella SP Just Men Maximum Tonic. Wella say that this product thickens the hair and uses a patented formula. Both of these products returned a 37 and 38 percent improvement after 90 days.
Kerastase
A range of products are available which, amongst other things, claims to target hair loss. The range was named Kérastase Spécifique and provides the user with a healthier scalp and hair loss prevention. At the website there were no further details regarding the product although if you want to learn more about this treatment then you can click on links from the site that may provide you with the information you require.
