Female Hair Loss - Medical Causes
You may or may not have realised that hair loss, thinning and balding, is a very common occurrence in both men and women. Both have had a long history of hair loss caused by so many things but female hair loss has been a growing concern, not helped by the media and the images viewed in today's world.

The causes of hair loss can be hugely different between people; I have listed a few that can be the cause of hair loss in females below although you must seek advice from a professional if you believe that your symptoms are a cause for concern. There are many unknown facts about loss of hair, I am far from a professional but there is so much information out there available to men but less for women. I have written this article to help you understand that there are places to go rather than suffering in silence.

Media and Hair Loss

Hair loss in females can be terribly frustrating. First, you see in magazines and newspapers and on television that they view the importance of life to begin with your skin and hair and how a person looks. They see that, no matter how you dress or how much expense you have gone to alter your image, hair must be glossy, thick and soft to meet that image of perfection.

Of course, this is not true. The true image of perfection is a person's character and personality, and how that person conducts themselves. We all know this; yet still try to adhere to the view enhanced by the media. Despite concerns about female hair loss, and how common it really is, we continue to view images that make us all feel less than perfect. If you are the type of person to take all this negative attention to heart, then it really has to be dealt with in a way that you are comfortable with. Remember, you are your own worst enemy and will pick faults with things that others don't even notice - what you think looks bad actually looks ten times better from everybody else's eyes.

Causes of Hair Loss

. Pregnancy
. Birth Control
. Pre Menstrual Tension
. Age
. Stress
. Surgery
. Medicines - chemotherapy, thyroid medication

In most of the causes listed, hormones play a huge part in the loss of hair. Most of those mentioned are temporary - such as pregnancy and surgery - and others are temporary and, like when taking medication, will stop when you stop taking that treatment or medication.

Help Available
If you are suffering from what you believe is hair loss, you can seek help from Doctors (General Health Professionals), Tricholigists (hair and scalp specialists), Dermatologists (scalp specialists) and Pharmacists if your symptoms are very light. Like those suffering from hair loss following change in pregnancy hormone levels, you really do not need to get help as your body is merely ridding the body of the extra hair gained during pregnancy. However, as in all events, if hair loss continues or if you are concerned then it is important to get the right help.

Products that specialise in female hair loss are Regaine (containing the chemical Minoxidil) which is a medication that can be prescribed or bought over the counter. Other milder treatments are those supplied by specialists in hair and scalp care that you can purchase at your salon or superstore. Those include manufacturers like Wella, L'Oreal and Kerastase. Vitamins and herbal remedies are also a very good option if you are already taking medication, or wish to follow a drug-free course, although be aware that some herbs and vitamins can counteract the effectiveness of certain medications in the body so my advice here is to get the correct advice wherever possible, and always question recommendations to assure your own safety.
